Transitioning to Fall and Winter

Best options for preparing for the colder months

Fall Back

Shorter days, leaves changing colors, kids returning to school….all telltale signs of  the summer coming to a close and that fall is right around the corner.  Here are some helpful tips on how to ensure your home is prepared for the change of seasons.

Ceiling Fans

Reverse your ceiling fan settings to clockwise and the fan on low in the Fall and Winter months. The clockwise blades push the warm air down from the ceiling to the floor near us. This can save you up to 15% on your energy bill

Check The Vibe

Fall is the time of year to create a cozy vibe. Add lots of texture to your rooms with different fabric and textiles. Try layering area rugs or adding window treatments made of heavier fabrics and that are energy saving.

Accessorize

An easy way to change your home for the season is to decorate with pillows and throws that are in jewel tones or earthy colors. Try switching out light airy accessories for more substantial pieces.

Turn off The Sprinklers

Winterize all outdoor sprinkler systems and spigots before the temperatures drop. Cool season lawns don’t need as much water when the temperature highs are below 80 degrees.  Failing to shut down and winterize your sprinkler system can cause your pipes to burst.

Smoke Detectors

Change the batteries in all of your smoke and carbon monoxide detectors. Commit to doing this once a year. You can feel safe knowing that if you need to be warned about either issue the alarm will sound.

Don't Forget The Furnace

Before you turn on your furnace for the season, change the filter. Dirty filters work harder to maintain the set temperature, which will cost you more money.
